The inauguration of a 15 km long extension to the Metro Red line – Route 2020, was done by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President as well as Prime Minister that belongs to UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The opening of Route 2020 has increased the total length of Dubai Metro Red and Green lines to 90 km and the total length of rail networks to 101 km. Having a capacity of 46,000 riders per hour in both directions, Route 2020 offers a safe as well as smooth transport facility to Expo visitors and residents of the Dubai community.

Route 2020, extending from the Jebel Ali Station to the Expo 2020 Station links seven stations in total, four of which opened up on January 1, 2020, and now belongs to the passenger’s usage. Location of all the stations:

 

Seven stations are linked by this track that extends upto 15 km in length, of which the elevated track is 11.8 km long and the underground track is 3.2 km long. Out of the seven stations on the track, one is the Interchange Station with the Red Line, one station at Expo 2020 site– which is also considered as the iconic station, two underground stations and three elevated stations.   1. Jebel Ali Station:

Jebel Ali station is an Interchange Station that connects with the Redline comprising a total area of 8,800 square metres and extending 150 metres in total length. The total number of riders enjoying Jebel Ali station service per day is 3,20,000, with the numbers reaching 17,000 riders per hour during peak times. The Jebel Ali Metro Station is very much alike to the Bur Juman Metro Station and Union Metro Station, which makes the communication from the Redline to Greenline much easier. People will also be enjoying four platforms, four Bus laybys, seventeen taxies drop off and seven parking slots in the station.

 

  1. The Gardens Station:

The Gardens Station is an elevated station with a total area of 8,100 square metres and an extension of 168 metresin length. It is situated next to the Gardens community in Dubai. The number of riders enjoying their service during peak times is 6,773 on an hourly basis. The total number of riders per day reaches 125,000. The garden station comprises two platforms, four Bus laybys, twenty taxi drop off slots and two designated parking slots. They even offer five retail units for commercial investment which is of 161 square metre area.

 

  1. Discovery Garden Station:

Discovery Gardens Station is another elevated station on the track. It is situated near the Discovery Gardens community development. It spans an area of 8,600 square metres and extends to a length of 168 metres. It can offer a service to 4,215 riders per hour during peak times. The total number of riders enjoying their service per day is 125,000. This station includes two platforms, four Bus laybys, twenty taxi drop off slots and two designated parking slots along with four retail units of 149 square metres for commercial Investments.

 

  1. Al Furjan Station:

The Al Furjan Station, providing service to the Al Furjan community in Dubai, is another elevated station. Spanning an area of 8,400 square metres and an extension of 168 metres in length, this station serves 4,746 riders per hour during peak times and 125,000 riders on an everyday basis.

 

  1. Jumeirah Golf Estates Station:

With a total area of 28,700 square metres and an extension of 232 metres in length, Jumeirah Golf Estates Station is the largest underground station in Dubai.

 

  1. Dubai Investment Park Station:

The second underground station of Route 2020, Dubai Investment Park Station spans an area of 27,000 square metres and extends 226 metres in length. It serves 13,899 riders per hour during peak times and 250,000 per day.

 

  1. Expo 2020 Station:

Only the visitors of Expo 2020 will be receiving the service of the final station, that is, Expo 2020 Station. Spanning an area of 18,800 square metres and an extension of 119 metresin length, this station comprises a ticket vending machine selling NoI cards. The linkage on the east leads to the Expo Exhibition and Expo Conference and Exhibition Centre, while the western linkage leads to EXPO Mall and urban complex. The Dubai airports can also be reached via this station.

Who can visit the Expo 2020 site?

 

The Expo 2020 site is currently not open for exploration by visitors. However, in the midst of 2020, the site had organised a tour of the entire location for their visitors.
